Omar govt’s governance gains unsettle BJP; Decade of misgovernance exposed: Showkat Mir

Srinagar, 12 Feb: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Kashmir Showkat Mir Thursday asserted that the BJP’s politics survives not on performance, but on polarization.

Interacting with scores of individual and public delegations, Mir said that whenever questions are raised about development, employment, rising prices, or public welfare during the decade long BJP’s direct rule in J&K, the party conveniently diverts attention toward communal fault lines. “For the BJP, division is strategy and distraction is governance,” he remarked.

He stated that while people are looking forward to better roads, meaningful employment, reliable electricity, and genuine economic relief, the BJP continues to manufacture rhetoric aimed at fragmenting society.

Reaffirming Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s commitment to inclusive growth and social cohesion, Mir said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are politically mature and capable of distinguishing between governance and lies. “The future of our region lies in development-driven politics, not in the politics of distraction,” he said.

Taking a direct swipe at the BJP, Mir alleged that the party not only attempted to deepen communal divides in J&K but also relied on what he termed a “highly lopsided” delimitation exercise aimed at gerrymandering constituencies for political gain. “Despite engineering the most favourable political arithmetic for itself, the BJP failed to make any meaningful impact on the ground,” he said.

He reiterated that the National Conference remains steadfast in its commitment to restoring trust in governance, accelerating development and safeguarding the pluralistic ethos and unique identity of Jammu and Kashmir.
