One Dies, Seven Fall Ill After Consuming Wild Vegetable in J&K’s Rajouri

Members of two families fell ill after consuming a wild vegetable in Kotranka area; investigation underway

RAJOURI/JAMMU, May 16: A suspected case of food poisoning claimed the life of a 60-year-old man and left seven others, including several children, hospitalised in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, officials said on Saturday.

The incident took place in Mohra village of the Kotranka subdivision, where members of two families reportedly consumed a wild vegetable during a meal on Friday evening. Soon after, they developed severe health complications and were rushed for medical assistance.

The affected individuals were first taken to the Community Health Centre in Kandi before being shifted to Government Medical College Hospital Rajouri for advanced treatment.

Officials identified the deceased as Mohammad Hussain, who succumbed while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The remaining seven patients are currently under medical supervision.

Doctors said preliminary findings point towards food poisoning, though the exact cause will be confirmed only after a detailed investigation.

Authorities have launched an inquiry to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
