KYIV, Oct 5: A 52 year old employee was killed after a Russian drone attack hit a pharmaceutical facility in Ukraine’s Sumy region, according to local media reports. The facility is owned by Indian investors, the Ukrainian Embassy in India said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed condolences to the victim’s family following the strike. He said Russian forces had targeted the pharmaceutical warehouse with drones, resulting in the death of one person.
The Ukrainian Embassy in India said the facility was not a military installation and was involved in manufacturing medicines considered essential. In a post on X, the embassy condemned the attack and highlighted the Indian ownership of the establishment.
The Kyiv Independent reported that the victim was a 52-year-old employee and that three other people sustained injuries in the incident.
The strike comes amid continued Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and civilian sites as the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv remains unresolved.
The development also comes as India continues its diplomatic engagement with both sides of the war. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Sunday that New Delhi has intensified efforts in recent months to encourage a resolution to the conflict through discussions with Kyiv and Moscow.
Jaishankar made the remarks days after Russian President Vladimir Putin said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had offered constructive ideas aimed at finding a mutually acceptable way forward in the Ukraine conflict.
India has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the war, while maintaining communication with both Russia and Ukraine.
