OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Teases Upcoming Features, Some Exclusive to Pro Subscribers

Altman hints at compute-intensive offerings while emphasizing AI’s potential impact on jobs and accessibility.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the company plans to roll out new compute-intensive AI offerings in the coming weeks, with some features initially limited to paid Pro subscribers. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Altman explained that certain advanced tools will carry additional fees due to high computational costs.

“Over the next few weeks, we are launching some new compute-intensive offerings. Because of the associated costs, some features will initially only be available to Pro subscribers, and some new products will have additional fees,” he wrote.

Altman emphasized that OpenAI’s long-term goal remains to lower the cost of AI and expand access globally. “Our intention remains to drive the cost of intelligence down as aggressively as we can and make our services widely available, and we are confident we will get there over time,” he added.

He also highlighted OpenAI’s experimentation with large-scale computing, exploring new possibilities by applying significant computational power to innovative ideas.

In a separate discussion about AI’s societal impact, Altman expressed confidence that AI will soon replace certain job roles, particularly in customer service. Speaking on “The Tucker Carlson Show,” he said, “I’m confident that a lot of current customer support that happens over a phone or computer, those people will lose their jobs, and that’ll be better done by an AI.” He also suggested programmers could be next, describing the shift as a “punctuated equilibria moment” in the job market.

Altman’s statements signal both the company’s ambitious AI roadmap and its potential influence on the future of work, while maintaining a focus on broader accessibility and innovation.
