NEW DELHI, May 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday described Operation Sindoor as a defining chapter in India’s fight against terrorism, asserting that the mission sent a powerful message to hostile forces attempting to threaten the nation’s security.
Marking the first anniversary of the operation, Shah said the military action demonstrated the coordinated strength of India’s armed forces, intelligence agencies, and leadership in responding decisively to terror activities originating across the border.
In a post shared on X, the Home Minister stated that the operation would be remembered as a historic example of India’s precise military capability and unwavering resolve to eliminate terror infrastructure targeting innocent citizens.
Referring to the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 last year, Shah said the country united in determination after 26 people, mostly tourists, lost their lives in the deadly assault.
He noted that India’s response through Operation Sindoor reflected the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and warned that enemies of the nation would continue to face strict retaliation regardless of where they attempt to hide.
“This day reminds our adversaries that India possesses both the capability and determination to act decisively against threats to national security,” Shah said while saluting the courage and dedication of the armed forces.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 last year, during which Indian forces carried out targeted airstrikes on nine terror-related locations situated in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The military action led to heightened tensions between the two neighbouring countries, with Pakistan attempting retaliatory strikes in the following days. However, most of the attacks were intercepted and neutralised by the Indian military defence systems.
The situation eventually de-escalated after both sides agreed to halt military operations on May 10 following discussions through military hotlines between senior army officials.
