NEW DELHI, May 14: Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan on Thursday said the Indian armed forces maintained complete dominance during Operation Sindoor due to superior battlefield awareness and real time intelligence capabilities throughout the four day military confrontation with Pakistan.
Speaking at the ‘Kalam and Kavach’ defence conclave at the Manekshaw Centre here, Gen Chauhan said Indian forces possessed accurate operational clarity regarding targets, enemy movements and developments across the border, enabling them to control every stage of escalation during the conflict.
“We dominated the escalation matrix on all four days because of superior situational awareness. We knew exactly what we had struck and how the situation was unfolding,” he said during an interactive session at the event.
The CDS noted that future conflicts would increasingly rely on advanced technologies, including drones and precision systems, but cautioned against prolonged military engagements without clearly defined objectives.
He stressed that political and military leadership must establish specific goals before initiating force and ensure a planned exit strategy once those objectives are achieved.
“There is no benefit in lingering after achieving the intended aims. A clear politico-military roadmap and exit strategy are essential in modern warfare,” Gen Chauhan said.
Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 last year in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan responded with military offensives, triggering intense cross border hostilities between the two nuclear armed neighbours. The confrontation lasted nearly 88 hours before both sides reached an understanding to halt military action on the evening of May 10.
