SRINAGAR, Sept 30: The outgoing Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, R R Swain, reflected on his eventful tenure as the state’s police chief during a press conference in Srinagar on Monday. As he prepares to retire, Swain expressed his unwavering commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region.
“It has been an eventful phase during which I endeavored to contribute to bringing about lasting peace—peace with dignity—here in Jammu and Kashmir,” Swain stated after paying homage at the Balidan Stambh in Pratap Park, Lal Chowk. His successor, Nalin Prabhat, will officially assume the role of DGP on October 1.
Swain emphasized that every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir deserves to live in an environment of tranquility and prosperity, free from fear and intimidation. “This has been my effort throughout my tenure,” he said. “I believe I did my best, and I take pride in not having let opportunities slip away.”
The outgoing DGP acknowledged the unique opportunity he had to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir, attributing his ability to fulfill this role to both the government and a higher power. “Such opportunities do not come to everyone, and I am grateful to the government, the Almighty, and my colleagues in the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies,” Swain remarked.
Addressing the challenges faced during his time in office, Swain described his commitment as more than just a statement of intent. “It was a hard call, but with my sincerity and dedication—soul, body, and mind—I strived to utilize every opportunity to bring smiles, alleviate fear, and promote happiness and prosperity,” he elaborated. His efforts extended not only to his police force but to all members of society, including mothers, sisters, children, parents, and senior citizens, regardless of community, religion, or language.
As he bids farewell to his role, Swain leaves behind a legacy of dedication and hope for a more peaceful future in Jammu and Kashmir.
