Over 17.27 Lakh Kanals of State Land Encroached in J&K 14.29 Lakh Retrieved, Assembly Told

Revenue Department shares division-wise details in Assembly reply

Jammu, Feb 17: The government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that more than 17.27 lakh kanals of state land have been encroached across Jammu and Kashmir, with over 14.29 lakh kanals successfully reclaimed so far.

Responding to a query raised by MLA Sham Lal Sharma, the Revenue Department presented detailed figures on the extent of encroachments and recovery efforts across both divisions.

According to the data, the Kashmir division recorded 3,27,198.50 kanals of encroached state land, out of which 2,16,912.98 kanals have been retrieved.

In the Jammu division, 14,00,049.66 kanals were found under encroachment, while authorities have recovered 12,12,287.44 kanals.

Overall, a total of 17,27,248.16 kanals of state land were identified as encroached across the Union Territory, with 14,29,200.42 kanals restored to government possession, the House was informed.
