Srinagar, Oct 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday informed the Assembly that 3,61,146 educated unemployed youth are currently registered across the Union Territory as of September 2025, highlighting the scale of joblessness despite ongoing employment initiatives.
According to official data, the Kashmir Division leads with 2.08 lakh registrations, while the Jammu Division accounts for 1.52 lakh. Among districts, Srinagar tops the list with 23,826 unemployed youth, followed by Anantnag (32,298), Pulwama (28,671), Kathua (26,798), and Kulgam (21,446). The lowest figures were recorded in Kishtwar (8,870) and Reasi (12,376).
Out of the total, 2,33,845 are male and 1,27,301 are female, reflecting a significant gender gap in employment.
The government said that under Mission Youth and Mission YUVA, efforts are underway to generate over 4.25 lakh employment opportunities through the establishment of 1.37 lakh entrepreneurship units. The focus, it added, is on self-employment, startups, and skill development to empower young people and reduce dependency on government jobs.
To support this, district-level Employment and Counselling Centres are organizing Career Melas and Rozgar Melas to connect youth with industry partners and promote innovation driven livelihoods.
“Our aim is to channelize the potential of educated youth into productive avenues, ensuring meaningful employment and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship across Jammu and Kashmir,” the government statement said.
