Over 70 Lakh People Employed Under PM-VBRY Scheme: PM Modi

Government’s employment-linked incentive scheme gains momentum as first-time job seekers receive direct financial support under PM-Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana

NEW DELHI, June 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that more than 70 lakh individuals have secured employment across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), highlighting the scheme’s expanding reach in boosting job creation and social security coverage.

During a public event, the Prime Minister also released ₹2,400 crore in incentives directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The funds are aimed at supporting around 15 lakh new employment opportunities under the government’s flagship employment-linked incentive programme.

Launched in August last year, PM-VBRY is designed to assist first-time job entrants while encouraging employers to expand hiring across multiple sectors. The scheme also ensures that new employees are brought under structured social security benefits from the beginning of their careers.

According to official figures shared by the Prime Minister, nearly 70 lakh new jobs have been generated so far under the initiative. In addition, an equal number of first-time employees have been included within the social protection framework, marking a significant expansion of welfare coverage for the workforce.

Modi further stated that around 20 lakh young workers have already completed six months in their initial jobs, while nearly 10 lakh beneficiaries have received milestone-based incentives after meeting eligibility requirements under the scheme.

He described the initiative as more than just financial assistance, stating that it reflects national recognition of the efforts of young workers and confidence in their future contributions to the economy.

The Prime Minister emphasized that employment generation improves when government, industry, and youth collaborate effectively. He said the programme is intended to strengthen this partnership by supporting both job creators and job seekers simultaneously.

Unlike traditional welfare measures that focus on either employees or employers, PM-VBRY has been structured to benefit both, encouraging industries to generate more jobs while ensuring security for new entrants in the workforce.

Modi also highlighted broader government efforts over the past twelve years to expand employment opportunities through initiatives in infrastructure, manufacturing, innovation, the digital economy, space research, and startups. Schemes such as Make in India, Vocal for Local, and Mission Manufacturing were cited as key drivers of job creation.

He added that the government is working to link employment with dignity, security, and social protection. Digital reforms in EPFO services, pension systems, and healthcare access have been introduced to improve ease of living for workers across sectors.

The Prime Minister also noted increasing participation of women in the workforce. Measures such as support for work-from-home models, night-shift allowances, and improved workplace safety regulations are aimed at further strengthening female employment.

Concluding his address, Modi stressed that future economic leadership will depend on skilled talent, innovation, and quality standards. He said India possesses strong potential in all three areas, positioning the country for greater global opportunities in the coming years.
