JAMMU, Apr 9: In a significant disclosure during the ongoing Budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the Union Territory administration revealed that a total of 83,742 domicile certificates have been issued to individuals from outside the erstwhile state over the past two years.
The information was presented in a written reply to a query raised by PDP legislator Waheed Ur Rehman Para, who had sought details about the number of domicile certificates granted to non-locals in the region. Responding to the query, the Minister Incharge informed the House that a total of 35,12,184 domicile certificates have been issued across Jammu and Kashmir during the said period.
Of these, 83,742 certificates were granted to individuals not originally hailing from J&K, sparking renewed debate around the demographic and political implications of such policies.
