Jammu, April 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, in a somber and emotional session held on Monday, paid heartfelt homage to the 26 innocent lives lost in the horrific terrorist attack at Pahalgam.
As the special session commenced, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather led the House in expressing profound sorrow and unequivocal condemnation of the brutal assault on tourists who had come from various parts of the country to experience the beauty of Kashmir. In his address, the Speaker said, “We bow our heads in homage to the victims of this barbaric act and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families who have suffered an irreparable loss.”
In a mark of respect, the entire House observed two minutes of silence, standing in memory of the victims whose lives were cruelly snatched away.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, speaking on behalf of the government, presented a resolution expressing deep shock, pain, and indignation over the merciless attack. The resolution described the incident as a “barbaric and inhumane act” that targeted unsuspecting tourists, causing nationwide grief and outrage.
The attack took place on April 22 at Baisaran, a scenic meadow in the upper reaches of Pahalgam in Anantnag district, a place often referred to as the ‘Mini Switzerland’ of Kashmir. Armed terrorists opened indiscriminate fire at the popular tourist destination, claiming the lives of 26 people, most of whom were holidaymakers from different states.
The Assembly reiterated its collective resolve to stand united against terrorism and uphold the values of peace, harmony, and humanity that the region cherishes. The members of the House also extended solidarity with the injured and prayed for their speedy recovery.
