Parliamentary Panel Reviews NEET-UG Re-Exam, Discusses Major Reforms for NTA

Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the National Testing Agency brief lawmakers on examination reforms, security measures, and the future of technology driven assessments.

New Delhi, July 01 : Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports met on July 1 to review the conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination and assess ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the National Testing Agency (NTA). The meeting comes in the wake of heightened scrutiny over the country’s entrance examination system following the cancellation of the original NEET-UG examination due to an alleged paper leak.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the NTA briefed the committee on the conduct of the June 21 re-examination, the enhanced security arrangements implemented during the retest, and administrative lessons learned from the episode.

NTA Director General Abhishek Singh presented a report outlining measures adopted for the re-examination, including strengthened logistics, enhanced surveillance, tighter monitoring of examination centres, and improved coordination among agencies.

Former ISRO Chairman K. Radhakrishnan, who heads the high-powered committee overseeing NTA reforms, also presented recommendations aimed at improving transparency, examination security, governance, and digital infrastructure.

Members of Parliament examined whether the reforms introduced after the controversy are sufficient to restore confidence among students and parents.

The committee also discussed the use of Artificial Intelligence in education, secure examination management, digital evaluation, and improving student employability through better alignment between higher education and industry requirements.

Education experts believe the parliamentary review marks an important step towards restoring trust in India’s national entrance examination system. The recommendations emerging from the meeting are expected to influence future reforms covering NEET, CUET, UGC-NET and other large-scale competitive examinations.

The committee is expected to submit recommendations to the Ministry of Education after reviewing the presentations and discussions held during the meeting.
