Passenger Booked for Smoking Beedi on Delhi–Goa Akasa Air Flight

Delhi man caught using lighter in aircraft lavatory; police register case citing threat to flight safety

Mapusa: A Delhi resident has been booked after allegedly smoking a beedi inside the lavatory of an Akasa Air flight travelling from Delhi to Goa, officials said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Ashish Dass, was seated in seat 11E when he allegedly carried a lighter onto the aircraft and later used it inside the washroom during the journey. The act was quickly detected by the cabin crew, who recovered the lighter from his possession.

Authorities said the incident posed a serious safety risk, as any open flame inside an aircraft can create a major fire hazard and endanger passengers as well as crew members.

Following the incident, the Mopa International Airport police registered a First Information Report against the passenger. The case was filed under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for acts endangering life or personal safety, along with Section 3(1)(C) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982.

Police said the accused was served a notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation into the matter is being carried out by PSI Viraj Sawant.
