PCB Weighs Legal Move After Muzarabani Opts for IPL Instead of PSL

Zimbabwe pacer joins Kolkata Knight Riders despite agreement with Islamabad United for upcoming PSL season.

Pakistan, Mar 14 : The Pakistan Cricket Board is preparing to initiate legal proceedings against Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani after he withdrew from a contract with Islamabad United for the forthcoming Pakistan Super League season.

According to reports, the pacer had agreed to replace Shamar Joseph in the Islamabad United squad for the tournament scheduled between March 26 and May 3, with a deal reportedly worth Rs11 million. However, the player later chose to join Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League as a substitute for Mustafizur Rahman.

PCB officials consider the move a breach of contract and are reportedly exploring legal options against the bowler. The board’s response highlights its determination to enforce agreements signed between players and franchises in the PSL.

This is the second consecutive season in which a player contracted to the PSL has switched to the IPL. Last year, South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch, who had been picked by Peshawar Zalmi, later joined Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement. Following that decision, Bosch was handed a one-season ban from participating in the PSL.

Muzarabani’s IPL call up comes after his impressive performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he played a key role in helping Zimbabwe national cricket team reach the Super Eight stage. The fast bowler claimed 13 wickets in six matches, including a notable four-wicket haul against Australia national cricket team during the group stage.

The PCB’s stance reflects growing concerns among cricket boards about maintaining contractual discipline as players increasingly balance commitments across multiple global T20 leagues. Officials believe the outcome of the case could influence future policies governing player participation in overlapping tournaments.
