PDP Leader Mehbooba Mufti Highlights Rising Youth Challenges and Urges Policy Change, Drawing Lessons from Bangladesh

Mehbooba Mufti Urges India to Learn from Bangladesh's Example to Avoid Pushing Jammu and Kashmir Youth to Their Limits

SRINAGAR, Aug 7: People’s Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti today urged India to learn from the situation in Bangladesh to prevent pushing the youth, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, to their breaking point. Addressing a party event at the headquarters in Srinagar, Mufti emphasized that the current oppressive policies and tyranny are unsustainable, as they test people’s patience and resilience. She warned that, similar to the fate of leaders like Sheikh Hasina, those in power might eventually face repercussions if they continue down this path.

Mufti stressed the importance of addressing the issues facing India’s youth, who are increasingly disillusioned due to rising inflation, unemployment, and policies that appear to be against their interests. She questioned how long educated youth can be expected to endure such conditions without viable opportunities.

Criticizing the government’s handling of unemployment and schemes such as Agniveer, Mufti argued that these measures contradict the core principles of the military and fail to address the underlying problems. She also highlighted the need for reservations to reflect demographic realities rather than creating disparities between open merit categories and reserved categories.

Mufti expressed deep concern over the growing number of youth suicides and the pervasive drug addiction crisis, attributing these issues to feelings of helplessness among the younger generation. She likened this situation to Bangladesh, where similar conditions have led to significant unrest.

She called for urgent action to address these issues, stating that the youth are the nation’s future and valuable assets. Mufti cautioned that ignoring their concerns and continuing with oppressive policies could lead to severe consequences, much like those witnessed in Bangladesh.
