“People Are Running for Kashmir and for India, It’s Beautiful”: Sunil Shetty at Kashmir Marathon 2.0

Bollywood actor praises Kashmiri hospitality and growing enthusiasm for sports, says the Valley is “back in a big way” with rising tourism and upcoming events.

Srinagar, Nov 2: Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty, who attended the Kashmir Marathon 2.0 in Srinagar on Sunday, expressed his joy at witnessing the overwhelming participation and enthusiasm among runners from across India and abroad.

Speaking to reporters during the event, Shetty said, “People are running for Kashmir and for India. This is such a beautiful thing, and it is amazing to see the energy of people of all ages. I am very happy to be here for the second edition, and I’ll try my best to come every year.”

When asked about the event’s significance for tourism following the recent Baisaran incident, Shetty noted that the Valley’s positive atmosphere is returning. “I arrived yesterday and visited Dal Lake and other places. It feels like that quietness is lifting  the energy is back. I believe this winter will be a very beautiful one for Kashmir,” he said.

Shetty expressed confidence that the region would see greater participation in sports and cultural events in the coming months. “I’m sure more athletes will join. Winter events are lined up for February, and even cricket tournaments featuring international players like Chris Gayle are coming. We are back  and back in a big way,” he added.

On Bollywood’s renewed interest in filming in the Valley, Shetty shared that several producers are keen to shoot in Kashmir. “Some of my producer friends are here and want to do more films. Kabir is also here, and there’s a ray of hope for new projects. We all must do our bit   this is our most beautiful place on Earth, and we should celebrate it,” he remarked.

Praising the spirit of the participants, Shetty said, “There are more than 100 international athletes and people from all over India. I saw runners above 60 years old  their enthusiasm is inspiring. I hope tourism, which saw 90% occupancy last year, continues to thrive this winter.”

Concluding with a heartfelt appeal, the actor said, “I pray, wish, and request people to come forward and make this beautiful place their own. Come and experience Kashmir.”
