NEW DELHI: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will travel to the United States to attend the G20 trade ministers’ meeting and hold discussions with American officials on the proposed bilateral trade agreement.
The negotiations between India and the US have been continuing, with a final decision expected to depend partly on Washington’s forthcoming tariff policy. The US has introduced additional duties of 10-12.5 per cent on imports from more than 50 countries over concerns about the use of forced labour in supply chains.
Meanwhile, the findings of a second Section 301 investigation into structural overcapacity in several economies, including India, are still awaited. Analysts have indicated that the US could clarify its next course of action following the G20 gathering in Milwaukee, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
During his visit, Goyal is also scheduled to meet chief executives of American companies in Milwaukee and Chicago, according to an official statement.
