New Delhi, Feb 04 : The Government of India has prioritized agriculture and farmer welfare for the financial year 2026-27, focusing on making the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme more effective and fully transparent. This year, a massive budget of ₹63,500 crore has been allocated to benefit around 9.5 crore farmers across the country.
Under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, the entire assistance will be sent straight to farmers’ bank accounts, eliminating intermediaries and ensuring timely financial support. The scheme aims to help farmers cover cultivation costs, purchase seeds, fertilizers, and modern equipment, and enhance their overall income.
To further improve efficiency, the government has set a goal of resolving 95% of farmer complaints promptly, making it easier for beneficiaries to access their entitlements without unnecessary delays. Estimates suggest that nearly three-fourths of farmers will use the assistance for essential agricultural inputs, boosting productivity and reducing dependency on external support.
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to economic security for farmers while integrating modern technology into agriculture, ensuring that India’s food producers can farm profitably and sustainably.
