PM Modi Announces Compensation Package for Victims of Jaisalmer Bus Tragedy

Ex-gratia payments of Rs 2 lakh for deceased and Rs 50,000 for injured announced after tragic fire claims 20 lives near Thaiyat village.

New Delhi, Oct 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic bus accident in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, in which a vehicle traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur caught fire near Thaiyat village, resulting in at least 20 deaths and 16 injuries.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Distressed by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia compensation from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF):

Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased person

Rs 50,000 for each injured individual

Rescue operations are ongoing, with local authorities and emergency services assisting victims. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals, with some referred to Jodhpur for advanced medical care.

Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, though investigations are ongoing. The incident has left the local community and authorities deeply shaken, with condolences pouring in for the victims and their families.

This relief package aims to provide immediate support to the families affected by the Jaisalmer bus tragedy.
