New Delhi, May 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday changed the display pictures across all his social media platforms to commemorate the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor and called upon people across the country to join the tribute by adopting the same image on their profiles.
The updated display picture features the words “Operation Sindoor” set against a black background along with the Indian tricolour. One of the letters “O” in the word “Sindoor” is highlighted with vermilion, symbolising sindoor traditionally worn by married Hindu women.
The new image has been uploaded on the Prime Minister’s official accounts on X, Facebook, Instagram, and his WhatsApp channel. Through a message shared on X, Modi remembered the bravery displayed by the Indian armed forces during the military operation conducted in May last year.
The Prime Minister said the country continues to take pride in the courage and determination shown by the armed forces in responding strongly to attacks targeting Indian citizens. He appealed to people to change their social media display pictures as a mark of respect for the soldiers and security personnel involved in the operation.
“During Operation Sindoor, our armed forces demonstrated exceptional bravery and protected the nation with determination. As a tribute to their success and sacrifice, I urge everyone to adopt this display picture on social media platforms,” Modi said in his post.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, and continued for several days along the western border. The coordinated operation involved the Indian Army, Air Force, Navy, and the Border Security Force. Military installations and terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were targeted during the mission.
The operation was initiated in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, in which 25 tourists and one local guide lost their lives. The attack had triggered nationwide outrage and demands for strong action against terrorism.
The anniversary of Operation Sindoor is being observed as a moment to honour the service and sacrifice of India’s defence forces, with several leaders and citizens sharing tributes online.
