New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended birthday greetings to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, wishing the veteran leader a long, healthy, and fulfilling life as he celebrated his 84th birthday.
Kharge, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha in addition to heading the Congress party, received greetings from leaders across the political spectrum on the occasion.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his best wishes, acknowledging Kharge’s role in Parliament and public life.
“Birthday greetings to Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge Ji. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life,” the Prime Minister wrote in his post.
Kharge, one of India’s most experienced parliamentarians, has held several significant positions during his decades-long political career. As Congress president, he continues to lead the party while representing the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
The exchange of greetings reflects the parliamentary tradition of extending personal courtesies across party lines despite political differences. Leaders from various political parties also joined in wishing Kharge on his birthday, recognizing his long-standing contribution to public service and democratic institutions.
The Congress chief has remained an influential voice in national politics, frequently raising issues concerning governance, the economy, social justice, and constitutional values in Parliament and public forums.
His 84th birthday was marked by congratulatory messages from party workers, supporters, and political leaders, highlighting his enduring presence in Indian politics.
The Prime Minister’s message added to the list of birthday wishes received by Kharge, underscoring the spirit of mutual respect that often accompanies such occasions in the country’s democratic framework.
