New Delhi, Dec 05 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday presented a Russian edition of the Bhagavad Gita to visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling the ancient scripture a timeless source of inspiration for millions around the world.
Sharing the moment on X, the Prime Minister posted a photograph of the exchange and wrote, “Presented a copy of the Gita in Russian to President Putin. The teachings of the Gita give inspiration to millions across the world.” In the image, both leaders are seen holding the book as PM Modi hands it over to the Russian President.
PM Modi emphasised the universal appeal of the Gita’s teachings, a theme he has highlighted frequently on global platforms. The Russian translation is among the many international editions that continue to attract readers across academic, spiritual and cultural circles.
President Putin arrived in Delhi on Thursday evening for a two-day State Visit. The Prime Minister received him at the airport in a special gesture, after which the two leaders travelled together in the same vehicle to the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, adorned with India–Russia flags and special lighting.
PM Modi later wrote that he was looking forward to his discussions with the Russian leader. “Delighted to welcome my friend, President Putin, to India. Looking forward to our interactions later this evening and tomorrow. India-Russia friendship is a time-tested one that has greatly benefitted our people,” he posted.
The two leaders greeted each other warmly with a hug before leaving the airport and briefly watched a cultural performance arranged as part of the welcome ceremony. Their meeting marks yet another reaffirmation of the long-standing strategic partnership and personal rapport shared between the two nations’ leaders.
