NEW DELHI, Aug 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which the two leaders reviewed the progress of the India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership and discussed the rapidly evolving situation in West Asia.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), both leaders assessed the continued expansion of bilateral ties and reiterated their commitment to enhancing cooperation across a wide range of sectors. The discussion underscored the shared intent to deepen collaboration for the mutual benefit of both nations.
Following the conversation, Prime Minister Modi shared details of the interaction on social media platform X, stating that the partnership between India and Israel continues to strengthen steadily. He also noted that the two leaders exchanged perspectives on the current regional developments in West Asia.
The PMO said the leaders agreed to remain in close contact as the security situation in the region continues to evolve, reflecting the importance both countries attach to regular high-level engagement.
The conversation comes at a time when tensions across West Asia remain high, with the conflict continuing for more than five months and diplomatic efforts yet to produce a lasting resolution.
Meanwhile, Iran announced that it is in the final stages of drafting an agreement with Oman concerning the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz. The development coincided with reports of two Israeli soldiers being killed in Lebanon, highlighting the fragile security environment across the region.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime routes, serving as a vital corridor for global oil and natural gas shipments. Any disruption in the waterway has the potential to affect international energy markets and global trade, making regional stability a matter of worldwide significance.
