PM Modi Lauds ‘Bastar Pandum,’ Emphasises Cultural Renaissance and Growth in Chhattisgarh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi says the cultural event reflects Bastar’s transformation from a Maoist hit region to one defined by heritage, confidence, and development.

New Delhi, Feb 10 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised the successful hosting of ‘Bastar Pandum,’ a three day cultural festival held in Chhattisgarh from February 7 to 9, describing it as a vibrant showcase of the region’s tribal traditions and cultural richness.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister congratulated organisers and participants, stressing that such platforms are vital for safeguarding India’s cultural legacy while strengthening local communities.

“Between 7 and 9 February, a special event called ‘Bastar Pandum’ was organised in Chhattisgarh, presenting Bastar’s culture, traditions, and tribal heritage on a grand scale,” Modi said, adding that community-led celebrations contribute significantly to cultural preservation and grassroots empowerment.

Pointing to the region’s evolving identity, Modi observed that Bastar was once synonymous with Maoist insurgency, violence, and underdevelopment but has witnessed notable change in recent years. He said the area is now gaining recognition for its development efforts and the rising self-belief among residents.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that the region would continue progressing toward peace and prosperity while nurturing its cultural pride.

‘Bastar Pandum’ is designed to highlight indigenous art, folk performances, traditional cuisine, and customs, forming part of wider initiatives to promote tourism, protect tribal heritage, and support inclusive growth in the historically insurgency affected Bastar belt.
