DEWAS (MP), Sept 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said public service has remained a central principle of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s governance and values, asserting that the party would continue to follow the same path regardless of the political power it gains.
Modi made the remarks during a video conference with participants of the Seva Sankalp Yatra, which is travelling from Vadnagar in Gujarat to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing the young participants, the prime minister said the commitment to serving people has remained a guiding principle from his early political journey in Gujarat through his tenure in Delhi.
He said the BJP’s approach to governance is rooted in the belief that public life should be dedicated to serving citizens. According to Modi, gaining political authority would not change that fundamental commitment.
The Seva Sankalp Yatra has brought together young people from different states and is being organised to mark Modi’s 76th birthday and 25 years of his public life as an elected representative.
The participants are currently travelling through Madhya Pradesh and were in Dewas district when the prime minister interacted with them through video conferencing.
The yatra began in Vadnagar, Modi’s hometown in Gujarat, and is scheduled to culminate in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
The journey is intended to connect young participants with places and people associated with the prime minister’s political journey while highlighting the theme of service in public life.
During the interaction, Modi emphasised continuity in the BJP’s approach to governance, saying that the party’s responsibilities toward citizens should remain unchanged even as its political influence expands.
He also referred to his own journey in public life, which began in Gujarat and later took him to the national political stage in Delhi.
The prime minister’s remarks came as participants of the yatra continued their journey across Madhya Pradesh before proceeding towards Uttar Pradesh.
The programme has been organised around two milestones Modi’s 76th birthday and the completion of 25 years of his career as an elected public representative.
The participation of youth from different parts of the country is a key feature of the initiative. The organisers have used the journey to promote engagement among young people around public service and civic responsibility.
The route connecting Vadnagar and Varanasi also carries political and personal significance for Modi. Vadnagar is associated with his early life, while Varanasi has been his Lok Sabha constituency.
The prime minister’s interaction with the participants provided an opportunity to reiterate his message on the role of service in public life. He maintained that political power should not lead the BJP away from its stated commitment to serving the people.
The Seva Sankalp Yatra will continue towards Varanasi after its Madhya Pradesh leg. Participants are expected to complete the journey while reflecting on the theme around which the programme has been organised.
Modi’s comments also underlined the BJP’s emphasis on service as part of its organisational and governance narrative. He said the principle should remain constant irrespective of the level of political authority held by the party.
The prime minister’s video interaction with the yatra participants thus focused on the relationship between political responsibility and public service, while marking significant milestones in his personal political journey.
