New Delhi, Sep 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday commemorated two landmark occasions in India’s history Swami Vivekananda’s iconic speech at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893 and the birth anniversary of Acharya Vinoba Bhave.
In a post on social media, the Prime Minister hailed Vivekananda’s address as a “watershed moment” that placed Indian culture and spiritual heritage on the global stage. “Emphasising harmony and universal brotherhood, he passionately spoke about the ideals of Indian culture. It is truly among the most celebrated and inspiring moments in our history,” PM Modi said.
Paying homage to Acharya Vinoba Bhave, the Prime Minister described him as a revered spiritual leader, freedom fighter, and social reformer who devoted his life to popularising Gandhian ideals. “His life was dedicated to empowering the marginalised. His thoughts inspire us greatly in the pursuit of building a Viksit Bharat,” Modi noted.
Swami Vivekananda’s 1893 Chicago speech continues to be remembered as a defining milestone in India’s global spiritual identity, while Acharya Bhave’s Bhoodan movement remains a symbol of social justice and grassroots reform.
