NEW DELHI, Nov 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday commended the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for completing 12 consecutive months without losing a personnel in operational duties, describing the milestone as a significant accomplishment for the country’s leading internal security force.
“A zero speaks volumes,” Modi wrote in a post on X, highlighting the force’s achievement. His post featured a graphic depicting three CRPF personnel standing guard with their weapons pointed in different directions.
The Prime Minister also noted that the force had recorded zero casualties during the period for the first time in 47 years, underscoring the significance of the development.
The CRPF said the milestone was achieved amid sustained and intensified security operations across several sensitive regions where its personnel are deployed. A senior officer described the development as highly satisfying, particularly given the challenging nature of the force’s responsibilities.
With a strength of approximately 3.25 lakh personnel, the CRPF plays a central role in maintaining internal security across the country. Its major operational responsibilities include anti-Naxal operations, counter-terrorism activities in Jammu and Kashmir, and counter-insurgency assignments in the northeastern states.
Over the years, personnel of the force have operated in several conflict-affected areas, often facing considerable risks while carrying out security missions. These assignments have resulted in significant casualties among its officers and jawans.
A senior CRPF officer said the latest achievement reflected improvements in the security environment as well as the force’s efforts to learn from past operational experiences.
The officer noted that preventing casualties during an entire year of operations was particularly encouraging, considering the difficult conditions under which CRPF personnel perform their duties.
Established in 1939 during British rule, the force was initially known by a different name before being renamed the Central Reserve Police Force in 1949, two years after India’s Independence.
According to official figures, 2,270 CRPF personnel have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty since the force’s establishment, highlighting its long-standing contribution to the country’s internal security.
The latest milestone represents a notable achievement for the paramilitary force, whose personnel continue to remain deployed in some of India’s most challenging security environments.
