Amsterdam, May 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Netherlands on Friday as part of the second leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in key sectors including technology, defence, renewable energy and trade.
Before reaching Amsterdam, Modi made a brief stop in Abu Dhabi where he met UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for discussions on bilateral and regional issues.
The three-day Netherlands visit marks Modi’s second trip to the European country since 2017 and comes amid growing strategic engagement between New Delhi and Amsterdam.
During the visit, Modi is scheduled to hold delegation level talks with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten. He will also meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.
Apart from official engagements, the prime minister is expected to interact with members of the Indian diaspora and leading business representatives from the Netherlands.
According to Ministry of External Affairs officials, the visit is aimed at expanding cooperation across emerging sectors and strengthening the strategic dimensions of India-Netherlands relations.
Over the past few years, both countries have widened collaboration beyond conventional areas such as agriculture, water management and healthcare to include semiconductors, innovation, maritime security, education and clean energy.
The Netherlands remains one of India’s major economic partners in Europe. Bilateral trade between the two nations stood at nearly USD 27.8 billion in 2024-25, while Dutch investments in India have reached approximately USD 55.6 billion, making the country one of the largest foreign investors in the Indian market.
