Kaliabor, Assam, Jan 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asserted that India has lost faith in the Congress party, citing its lack of a development agenda, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the “first choice” of the citizens. He highlighted that public confidence in the BJP has grown steadily over the past one and a half years.
“…The country is continuously rejecting the negative politics of the Congress… BJP has become the first choice of everyone in the country… In the last 1-1.5 years, the country’s faith in the BJP has been continuously on the rise,” Modi said while addressing a rally in Kaliabor during his two-day visit to Assam.
During the event, PM Modi inaugurated two new Amrit Bharat Express trains — the Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Rohtak and the Dibrugarh-Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) routes — aimed at enhancing connectivity for traders, students, and the general public. He also performed the ‘Bhoomi Poojan’ for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, a 4-laning of the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH‑715 worth over ₹6,950 crore, which is expected to improve road connectivity across Assam.
Hailing BJP’s recent victories, Modi celebrated the party’s historic win in the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections. “…Congress was born in Mumbai, but today, Congress stands in the fourth or fifth position in the city… One of the world’s biggest municipal corporations, Mumbai, gave a historic mandate to the BJP, making the party win for the first time,” he said. Modi emphasized that the Congress, once dominant in Maharashtra, has “almost completely collapsed.”
In a lighter moment, the Prime Minister acknowledged people showcasing Bodo traditional dance on social media and interacted with attendees holding hand-drawn portraits of him, requesting to collect them directly from the audience.
