New Delhi, Oct 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his greetings to devotees on the occasion of Chhath, a four-day festival dedicated to the Sun God, widely celebrated across Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote,
“With the sacred ritual of ‘Nahay-Khay’, the four day grand festival of Chhath begins today. I extend my heartfelt wishes to devotees across Bihar and the entire nation. My respect and salute to all those observing the fast.”
He also shared a song by renowned singer Sharda Sinha, whose soulful music adds to the festive fervor. Modi noted that he visited Begusarai on Friday, a place closely associated with the celebrated singer.
Commenting on the cultural importance of the festival, the Prime Minister said,
“This magnificent festival of our culture symbolises simplicity and restraint, whose sanctity and adherence to rules are unparalleled. The sights at the Chhath ghats on this auspicious occasion inspire familial and social harmony. The ancient tradition of Chhath has had a profound impact on our society.”
He further highlighted that Chhath is now celebrated worldwide, with Indian families abroad actively participating in its rituals.
“I pray that Chhathi Maiya bestow her abundant blessings on everyone,” he added.
Modi described Chhath Mahaparv as a unique confluence of faith, devotion, and love for nature, where devotees offer prayers to both the setting and rising Sun, and offerings reflect nature’s diverse hues.
“The songs and melodies sung during Chhath are filled with devotion and the spirit of nature,” he said.
Sharing his experience from Begusarai, the Prime Minister added,
“It was my privilege to visit Begusarai. Bihar’s ‘Kokila,’ Sharda Sinha ji, shares a soulful connection with this place. Through their songs, Sharda Sinha ji and many folk artists from Bihar have added special emotion to the celebration of Chhath.”
