Guwahati, Feb 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to roll out a series of high-impact infrastructure and education initiatives during his one-day visit to Assam on Saturday, signalling the Centre’s continued emphasis on the Northeast’s growth.
The Prime Minister will depart from New Delhi early in the morning and land at Chabua Airport around 7:15 a.m. He will then travel to Moran in Dibrugarh district to witness an air show featuring advanced aerial manoeuvres.
A key highlight of the programme is the inauguration of an Emergency Landing Facility on a national highway at Moran, an initiative expected to strengthen India’s defence readiness and underline Upper Assam’s rising strategic relevance. Security has been significantly enhanced, with senior officials overseeing preparations.
Later in the afternoon, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a long-awaited bridge over the Brahmaputra River, linking Guwahati with North Guwahati. The project is anticipated to ease congestion, cut travel time, and improve regional connectivity.
In a boost to higher education, Modi will also open the temporary campus of Indian Institute of Management Guwahati at Bongora, an institution expected to nurture management talent and support regional development.
Adding to the sustainability push, the Prime Minister will flag off 100 electric buses for Guwahati to enhance public transport, curb emissions, and improve urban air quality.
Officials noted that the visit reflects the government’s sustained focus on strengthening infrastructure, expanding educational opportunities, and modernising urban mobility across Assam. Extensive arrangements have been made at all venues to ensure the smooth execution of the Prime Minister’s schedule.
