New Delhi, Nov 28 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a major spiritual tour today, with significant stops in Karnataka and Goa.
He will begin the day in Udupi, Karnataka, where he will participate in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana, a mass recitation of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita by nearly one lakh people including students, scholars, monks, and devotees at the historic Sri Krishna Matha. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa and dedicate the Kanaka Kavacha, a golden covering for the revered Kanakana Kindi, associated with Saint Kanakadasa’s divine vision.
Sri Krishna Matha, founded over 800 years ago by Madhvacharya, remains one of the most revered Vaishnava institutions.
Ahead of the visit, PM Modi said he was “honoured” to participate in the Gita Parayana, calling it a gathering that unites people across communities.
By afternoon, the Prime Minister will reach Partagali in South Goa to attend the 550th-year celebrations of Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math, considered the first Gowd Saraswat Brahmin Vaishnava Math. There, he will unveil a 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Ram, inaugurate the Ramayana Theme Park, and release a commemorative stamp and coin.
Organisers expect a massive turnout. Over 15,000 devotees are set to attend Friday’s ceremony, while the broader 11-day festival is projected to draw more than 1.2 lakh participants. Cultural programmes featuring renowned artists such as Shankar Mahadevan and Anup Jalota will be held throughout the celebrations.
The Math, which traces its origins to the 13th-century Dvaita tradition of Jagadguru Madhvacharya, sits on the scenic banks of the Kushavati river in Goa.
