PM Modi to Inaugurate Delhi Metro Corridors and GPRA Redevelopment Projects Worth ₹33,500 Crore

Projects include Phase V-A metro expansion and modernization of government housing colonies across Delhi

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several major development projects in the national capital on March 8, with a total investment of approximately ₹33,500 crore, according to an official statement.

Delhi Metro expansion

The programme will include the launch of two new Delhi Metro corridors as well as the foundation for three additional routes under Phase V-A of the metro expansion, spanning a total of 16.10 km. The proposed corridors cover R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.

Officials said these routes are expected to enhance connectivity across key parts of Delhi, including links between south Delhi, Noida, and the airport, while contributing to improved public transport infrastructure in the Delhi-NCR region.

GPRA redevelopment

Alongside metro projects, the Prime Minister will oversee redevelopment works under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) initiative, valued at around ₹15,200 crore. Redevelopment will take place in several government colonies, including Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri.

The GPRA plan aims to provide more than 9,350 new flats for government employees and create about 48 lakh square feet of modern office space to support administrative functions. Officials said the redevelopment will upgrade ageing housing infrastructure while enhancing public amenities and office facilities.

Funding and implementation

The redevelopment projects follow a self-sustaining financial model. A portion of the land in these colonies will be developed for commercial and residential purposes, with revenue generated expected to fund the construction of new housing, infrastructure, and public facilities.

The Prime Minister is also expected to address attendees during the programme, highlighting the government’s broader efforts to modernise urban infrastructure and administrative facilities in the national capital.
