PM Modi to Inaugurate Micron’s New Assembly Plant in Gujarat During Tour

Gujarat milestone in India’s semiconductor journey

New Delhi, Feb 28 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Gujarat on February 28 at 3:45 PM to inaugurate the Semiconductor Assembly, Test, and Packaging (ATMP) facility of Micron Semiconductor Technology India Private Limited in Sanand. He will also address attendees on the occasion.

According to an official press release from the PMO, the Sanand ATMP facility marks a significant milestone in India’s semiconductor manufacturing landscape, with the first commercial production and shipment of memory modules made in India. This initiative strengthens the country’s presence in the global semiconductor value chain.

The project, first approved under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), had its groundbreaking in September 2023. With an investment exceeding ₹22,500 crore, construction began promptly, reflecting the government’s push to accelerate strategic semiconductor projects.

Once fully operational, the Sanand facility will house roughly 500,000 square feet of cleanroom space, ranking among the world’s largest raised-floor cleanrooms. It will produce advanced memory and storage products from Micron’s global DRAM and NAND wafers, catering to international customers and meeting growing demand driven by AI and high-performance computing.

“The operationalisation of this facility highlights India’s emergence as a competitive and reliable hub for semiconductor manufacturing, supporting the Prime Minister’s vision of a resilient, self-reliant technology ecosystem,” the PMO release stated.
