New Delhi, Oct 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a cordial conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday, congratulating him on Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship and wishing him success for the upcoming summits.

PM Modi expressed his eagerness to join the ASEAN-India Summit virtually, emphasizing India’s commitment to deepening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. “Had a warm conversation with my dear friend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia. Congratulated him on Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship and conveyed best wishes for the success of upcoming Summits. Look forward to joining the ASEAN-India Summit virtually, and to further deepening the ASEAN India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” PM Modi shared on X.

The discussion highlighted the strong bilateral ties between India and Malaysia, with both leaders exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, technology, education, and security. The 47th ASEAN Summit, scheduled from October 26 to 28, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, will serve as a key platform for leaders to discuss regional peace, economic resilience, and inclusive growth.

The summit will also witness the formal handover of the ASEAN Chairmanship from Malaysia to the Philippines, marking the conclusion of a significant year under Malaysia’s leadership, which focused on the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”

India’s engagement at the summit underscores its growing strategic partnership with Southeast Asia, aiming to strengthen collaboration across multiple domains and advance regional prosperity and stability.
