Meerut, Feb 22 : Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat inauguration: PM Modi to launch major connectivity push
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat train at around 12:30 pm from Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station in Meerut on Sunday. He is also scheduled to travel by metro up to Meerut South Station.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, marking the completion of key stretches of India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). The project has been designed as an integrated urban and regional mobility network aimed at reducing travel time between Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh while strengthening public transport infrastructure.
In addition to the transport rollout, the Prime Minister will unveil multiple development initiatives valued at approximately ₹12,930 crore in the region and address a public gathering.
CM Yogi terms move a milestone
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the launch as the beginning of a “new golden chapter” in the state’s growth story. In a message posted on X, he said the projects would accelerate infrastructure expansion and enhance modern connectivity across western Uttar Pradesh.
The Chief Minister noted that along with the transit services, several public welfare and development works exceeding ₹12,000 crore would be dedicated to the district, reinforcing the state’s push toward rapid urban transformation.
