PM Modi to Review Bullet Train Project Progress at Surat Station Today

Prime Minister to assess construction milestones of Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor

New Delhi, Nov 15 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Gujarat on Saturday to review progress on one of India’s most ambitious transport infrastructure projects the Mumbai Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR).

Around 10 a.m., the Prime Minister will inspect the under-construction Surat Bullet Train Station, a crucial hub on the 508-km high-speed rail route designed to usher India into the era of bullet trains.

The MAHSR corridor spans Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, connecting key cities such as Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai. Of the total length, 352 km falls in Gujarat and the Union Territory, while 156 km passes through Maharashtra.

To ensure safety and efficiency, nearly 85% of the rail line about 465 km is being built on elevated viaducts. According to project authorities, major civil works are progressing steadily with 326 km of viaduct completed and 17 out of 25 river bridges constructed.

Once operational, the bullet train will cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to approximately two hours, transforming connectivity, stimulating business activity, and accelerating economic growth across the region.

The Surat Bilimora stretch, covering nearly 47 km, is one of the most advanced sections, with civil structures and track-bed preparation fully completed.

The upcoming Surat Bullet Train Station draws design inspiration from the city’s iconic diamond industry. It will include spacious lounges, modern passenger amenities, retail zones, and smooth integration with the Surat Metro, local bus services, and the Indian Railways network.

Surat’s overall railway infrastructure is undergoing rapid modernisation, including a large-scale redevelopment plan to upgrade the existing railway station with improved concourses, enhanced passenger services, and multimodal connectivity.
