PM Modi: Yoga Has United Millions, Becoming a Global Community Celebration

Addressing International Day of Yoga celebrations in Kolkata, Prime Minister urges people to adopt yoga as a lifelong practice for physical vitality, mental wellness and active ageing.

KOLKATA, June 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday described yoga as a powerful force that has united people across continents, saying the ancient Indian discipline has evolved into the world’s largest community-driven celebration. Addressing the 12th International Day of Yoga event in Kolkata, the Prime Minister said the growing global participation reflects yoga’s universal appeal and its ability to transcend cultural, geographical and social boundaries.

Speaking before a large gathering, Modi noted that June 21, traditionally known as the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, has acquired a new global significance through the widespread observance of International Day of Yoga. He said millions of people around the world now come together on this day to celebrate wellness, harmony and collective well being through yoga.

The Prime Minister extended his greetings to people across the globe for embracing the practice and making it a worldwide movement. He emphasized that yoga serves as a bridge connecting communities, fostering unity and encouraging a healthier lifestyle among people of all ages.

During his address, Modi also lauded the citizens of Kolkata for actively participating in the ‘Swachhata Se Swagat’ initiative. He said cleanliness and wellness go hand in hand and contribute significantly to improving the quality of life.
