PM Modi’s upcoming Jordan visit focused on strengthening ties: Envoy

Visit marks 75 years of India–Jordan diplomatic ties; high-level talks, business outreach and cultural engagements planned.

New Delhi, Dec 14 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a two-day official visit to Jordan on December 15 and 16, marking a key milestone in India–Jordan relations as the two countries commemorate 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties.

The visit, at the invitation of King Abdullah II of Jordan, is expected to further strengthen the close and multifaceted partnership between the two nations, India’s Ambassador to Jordan, Manish Chauhan, said.

Ambassador Chauhan said the Prime Minister’s visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral relations and help elevate cooperation across sectors. “We are optimistic about a very productive and successful visit, which will pave the way for further strengthening the strong bonds between India and Jordan,” he told IANS.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold delegation level talks with King Abdullah II and is also scheduled to meet Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II. He will be formally received by the Prime Minister of Jordan upon his arrival in Amman.

The ambassador said the packed itinerary reflects the importance both sides attach to the relationship. In addition to leadership-level meetings, the Prime Minister will interact with leading Jordanian business representatives to explore opportunities for deepening economic cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi will also travel to the historic city of Petra along with the Crown Prince, highlighting the cultural dimension of the bilateral relationship.

“This is a very busy schedule for the Prime Minister, which indicates the breadth of engagement planned during the visit,” Chauhan said, adding that discussions are expected to cover the entire spectrum of bilateral ties, as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The Prime Minister is also expected to interact with members of the Indian community in Jordan. Chauhan said the Indian diaspora in the country is well-integrated and looking forward to the visit.

Highlighting economic ties, the ambassador said India is among Jordan’s top trading partners, with Jordan exporting key commodities such as fertilisers that are vital for India’s food security. Bilateral trade currently stands at around $2.8 billion and is nearing $3 billion, he said, adding that there is significant potential for further expansion.

Ambassador Chauhan also underscored the strong cultural and people to people links between the two countries, noting the presence of a large group of “Friends of India” in Jordan, many of whom have studied in India. Education, cultural exchanges and enhanced connectivity, including direct flights by Royal Jordanian Airlines, continue to strengthen bilateral ties, he added.
