Jammu, Feb 8: In a dramatic turn of events, Jammu and Kashmir Police thwarted a potential major crime, injuring a wanted criminal in retaliatory fire and arresting his accomplice during a high-stakes encounter on the Ring Road in Miran Sahib area today.
According to police officials, Daljot Singh, alias Daljot Punjabi, a notorious history-sheeter from Dashmesh Nagar, Satwari, was traveling in a Bolero along with his associate, Aman Singh alias Anu of Kathua. The duo was reportedly en route from Samba to Jammu, allegedly planning a serious crime when law enforcement intercepted them.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint police checkpoint was set up by SHOs of Miran Sahib and Satwari, Jaipal Sharma and Jai Paul Singh, respectively. When signaled to stop, the suspects instead opened fire on the police party, prompting the officers to retaliate in self-defense. In the ensuing exchange, Daljot Punjabi sustained a bullet wound in his leg and was subsequently rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, his accomplice, Aman Singh, was apprehended on the spot. A manhunt has been launched to track down other accused individuals linked to the case. During the operation, police recovered two firearms and a cache of ammunition from their vehicle, which has since been seized.
A case has been registered at Police Station Miran Sahib under FIR No. 23/2025, invoking sections 109, 3(5), and 3/4/25 of the Arms Act. Investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the duo’s criminal activities and possible connections.
Police sources revealed that Daljot Singh has a long history of criminal activities, with multiple cases registered against him. These include FIR No. 80/2024 under sections 126(2), 115(2), 304(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Arms Act, as well as FIR No. 270/2024 under sections 109, 191(2), 115(2), 126(2), and 3/4/25 Arms Act across various police stations.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing threat of armed criminal gangs in the region, with police stepping up efforts to crack down on organized crime networks. Authorities have assured that all individuals involved in the case will be brought to justice, as investigations continue to unravel their broader operations.
