Polish PM Donald Tusk to Visit India on October 21: MEA

Polish PM to hold talks with Narendra Modi on trade, defence, emerging technologies and renewable energy; business forums scheduled in New Delhi and Bengaluru.

NEW DELHI, Oct 19: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will visit India from October 21 to 23 for high-level discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with both countries seeking to expand bilateral cooperation and strengthen their strategic partnership, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Monday.

The visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to India-Poland relations and contribute to the broader India-European Union strategic partnership, according to the ministry.

Tusk is visiting India at the invitation of Modi. He will be accompanied by Poland’s Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domanski and a large business delegation, reflecting the emphasis on strengthening economic and commercial engagement between the two countries.

The two prime ministers are scheduled to hold bilateral talks on October 22, during which they will review the full range of bilateral relations and discuss regional and international developments of mutual interest.

India and Poland elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership during Modi’s visit to Poland in August 2024, laying the groundwork for expanded collaboration across several sectors.

According to the MEA, Tusk will also travel to Bengaluru, where he is expected to interact with business representatives, particularly those working in the information technology and space sectors.

Business engagement will be a key component of the visit, with India-Poland Business Forums scheduled in New Delhi on October 22 and Bengaluru on October 23. The meetings are expected to bring together business leaders and stakeholders to explore investment opportunities and strengthen commercial links.

The discussions will cover several priority areas, including trade and investment, defence cooperation, emerging technologies, renewable energy, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

The MEA said the visit would offer an opportunity to advance cooperation in areas of shared interest and further consolidate the strategic partnership between the two nations.

This will be Tusk’s second visit to India as Poland’s prime minister. His previous visit in that capacity took place in 2010. He also travelled to New Delhi in 2017 to attend the India-EU Summit in his then capacity as president of the European Council.
