The region, which was once relatively peaceful, has become a hotbed of terrorist activities, posing a serious challenge to the security forces deployed in the area. The rise in terrorism in Poonch and Rajouri is a matter of great concern and needs urgent attention from the government and the security forces. The reasons for the rise in terrorism in the region are complex and varied. One of the primary reasons is the proximity of the region to the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan. The LoC is a highly sensitive area, and terrorists often use it to infiltrate India. The terrain in the region also makes it easy for the terrorists to hide and carry out their activities. The thick forests and rugged terrain provide the perfect cover for the terrorists to plan and execute their attacks. Another reason for the rise in terrorism in the region is the presence of a large number of dissatisfied youths. The lack of employment opportunities and economic development in the region has led to a sense of frustration among the youth, making them vulnerable to radicalization by terrorist organizations. Terrorist organizations, in turn, offer them money and other incentives to join their ranks.

In order to address these challenges, the government and the security forces need to adopt a multi-pronged approach. The first step is to improve the intelligence-gathering mechanism. The security forces need to develop better sources of intelligence and improve their coordination with the local police and intelligence agencies. The local population needs to be reassured that their identities will be protected and that they will not face any reprisals for providing information to the security forces. Besides this, the government needs to invest in road connectivity, communication facilities, and basic amenities like electricity and water. This will not only help the security forces in their operations but also improve the living conditions of the local population and address the issue of youth radicalization. Above all immediately there is a need to increase the presence of the security forces in the region. This will not only act as a deterrent to terrorists but also improve the sense of security among the local population. The security forces need to be provided with adequate resources and training to deal with the challenges posed by the terrain and the local population and also initiate development projects in the region that will create employment opportunities and improve the standard of living.
