Present regime miserably failed to protect rights of OBC community: Abdul Gani Teli

Says Only NC can address issues of all sections of society

KATHUA Dec 12 : The present regime has miserably failed to protect the rights of minority community belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC), as the members of this backward community are living under depressed conditions in the state.

This was stated by Abdul Gani Teli, Provincial President OBC Cell, National Conference, while addressing a meeting of party cadre at Panchayat Samwan in district Kathua.

The meeting was organized by Vinod Kumar, Block President OBC Cell, NC, Kathua.

Addressing party workers, Abdul Gani Teli came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party Government at the Centre stated that it has brought nothing but miseries for the people of Jammu and Kashmir especially the OBC community in the state. He said that BJP promised the moon but all the promises proved to be merely hollow slogans. He said that there has been no development on ground about which the government has been making tall claims. In fact the people are decrying for basic amenities, he added.

The senior NC leader termed it most unfortunate that the OBC people continue to be totally ignored for the last eight years and today there is a dire need to enhance the four percent reservation quota for the OBC community. The 2 per cent reservation to OBC was given by the NC government and further 2 per cent reservation was sanctioned by the then Omar Abdullah government but not implemented by the successive government in the state, he added.

Teli demanded that 27 percent reservation as per the Mandal Commission should be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir and one time certificate be issued to OBC community members. He asserted that only National Conference can address people’s problems for which the party cadre will have to further strengthen the base of party at grass roots level.

Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary JKNC, in his address, expressed great disappointment against the J&K government for its negative attitude towards the weaker sections of society and alleged that that the present administration is not showing the least concern to addressing the pressing issues of this section of the society.

Sheikh Bashir appealed to the people of district Kathua to support National Conference in the forthcoming Assembly elections in J&K to get rid of all the miseries thrust upon them by the BJP Government at the Centre. He asserted that the National Conference has always remained committed to protect the rights of weaker sections in the past and shall continue to do the same in future too. He maintained that only National Conference can address issues of the people of all sections of society of J&K as all other political outfits have failed to address the aspirations of common people.

Among others who were present in the meeting include: Pardeep Bali Provincial Secretary, Sham Narian Mehta District President Kathua Rural, D.D Mehra, Harjit Singh, Janak Raj, Ashu Rajput, Karamudin, Munzamil Malik, Vijay Kumar, Yog Raj, Sunil Kumar, Raj Kumar and others.
