President Draupadi Murmu to Grace Kashmir University’s 20th Annual Convocation as Chief Guest

06-10-2023 : President of India, Draupadi Murmu, is scheduled to visit Kashmir University on October 11, 2023, where she will be the esteemed chief guest for the institution’s 20th annual Convocation. This event is poised to be a grand celebration, as President Murmu will confer degrees upon more than 53,000 candidates from diverse academic disciplines. The Convocation ceremony will take place at the Convocation Complex of the University of Kashmir, located in Hazratbal, Srinagar.

The forthcoming Convocation marks a significant milestone in the academic journey of students who have successfully completed their courses between 2021 and mid-2023. A staggering total of 53,523 candidates are slated to receive their degrees during this momentous occasion. This diverse group includes 46,812 undergraduate degree recipients, 5,509 postgraduate degree awardees, 572 doctoral degree (Ph.D.) holders, and an additional 10 candidates earning Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degrees.

During this event, approximately 320 students, comprising 210 girls and 110 boys, will be honored with prestigious gold and silver medals, along with accompanying cash prizes. The gold medals will be presented to 283 students, including 189 girls and 94 boys, while sponsored gold medals will be awarded to 21 students, featuring 13 girls and two boys. Moreover, sponsored silver medals will be presented to four candidates, including two boys and two girls, while sponsored cash prizes will be granted to 12 students, including six boys and six girls.

Preparations for the Convocation are in full swing, with the full dress rehearsal scheduled for October 7, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Convocation Complex of the University. According to a University notification, all registered candidates are expected to participate in the rehearsal after collecting their Special Identity Cards and robes from dedicated desks set up for this purpose in the new administration block. These desks will commence operations from 10:00 AM onwards on October 7. Specific details regarding transportation, seating arrangements, and other logistical matters for the Convocation will be communicated separately by the respective committees responsible for organizing the event. In light of the impending visit of President Murmu, the University of Kashmir has decided to postpone the exams initially scheduled for October 6 and 10 of this year. The October 6 exams were postponed due to the following Friday, while the October 10 exams have been deferred for security reasons associated with the President’s visit to the campus the following day.
