President Murmu in Jaisalmer for Two-Day Visit; to Attend ‘Vayu Shakti-2026’ Exercise at Pokhran

Supreme Commander to co-pilot LCH Prachand; IAF’s largest firepower drill to feature 77 fighter jets and 43 helicopters

Jaisalmer, Feb 27 : President Droupadi Murmu reached Jaisalmer on Thursday evening for a two-day tour, during which she will attend the ‘Vayu Shakti-2026’ exercise at the Pokhran Field Firing Range on Friday.

As part of her itinerary, the President will undertake a sortie in the indigenously developed Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) ‘Prachand’ from the Jaisalmer Air Force Station. She will serve as co-pilot during the 25-minute flight, which includes an aerial survey of the city and nearby areas under heightened security.

In her role as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, she will be briefed by Air Force officials prior to take off. Following the landing, she is scheduled to interact with personnel at the station and pose for a group photograph.

Later, she will attend the ‘Vayu Shakti 2026’ event as chief guest. The large-scale demonstration, regarded as the Indian Air Force’s premier firepower display, will be held in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Governor Haribhau Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, the Union Civil Aviation Minister, service chiefs, and defence representatives from friendly countries.

According to Air Force Deputy Chief Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, the drill will involve nearly 12,000 kilograms of ammunition. A total of 77 fighter aircraft and 43 helicopters will participate in firing and operational missions, highlighting the force’s readiness for multi-front contingencies.

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare said comprehensive security arrangements, including a temporary no-fly zone and traffic restrictions, have been implemented across the district in view of the President’s presence.
