NEW DELHI, Jul 28: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday urged the country’s youth to remain committed to ethical principles and actively contribute to India’s development, saying that strong moral values are essential for building a progressive and inclusive nation.
Speaking at Rashtrapati Bhavan during the release of the first set of five commemorative books celebrating four years of her presidency, the President said that every interaction she has with young people whether at the Presidential Estate or during official visits across various states becomes an opportunity to inspire them to embrace integrity, responsibility, and service to society.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and was attended by Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, who formally released the books in the presence of President Murmu and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan.
A Responsibility Beyond Honour
Reflecting on her tenure, President Murmu said that serving as the Head of State has always been more than a ceremonial position for her. Since taking office on July 25, 2022, she has viewed every responsibility associated with the presidency as a solemn national duty.
She remarked that holding the nation’s highest constitutional office is not merely an honour but a profound responsibility that requires dedication, impartiality, and continuous commitment to the welfare of citizens.
According to the President, the office has provided her with opportunities to engage directly with people from different walks of life and understand their aspirations, challenges, and expectations.
Inspiring Youth Through Values
President Murmu stressed that India’s young generation has a crucial role in shaping the country’s future. She said that while education, innovation, and technological advancement are important, ethical values remain the true foundation of lasting progress.
During interactions with students and young citizens, she consistently encourages them to become responsible individuals who contribute positively to society and uphold honesty, compassion, and national unity.
She observed that young Indians possess immense potential and can become catalysts for social transformation if guided by strong moral principles.
Encouraging Women’s Empowerment
The President also reiterated her commitment to women’s empowerment, emphasizing that women should become economically independent and confidently pursue opportunities in every field.
She said she regularly motivates women to believe in their abilities, strengthen their self-confidence, and participate fully in the country’s development journey.
According to her, empowering women not only transforms families but also accelerates national progress by creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
Preserving Tribal Heritage
President Murmu, India’s first tribal President, also spoke about her interactions with members of tribal communities across the country.
She said she encourages tribal citizens to preserve their unique traditions, languages, customs, and cultural heritage while embracing education, innovation, and development.
The President noted that India’s diversity is one of its greatest strengths, and protecting indigenous cultures is essential for preserving the nation’s rich civilizational identity.
She added that tribal communities continue to make valuable contributions to India’s growth while maintaining their cultural distinctiveness.
Books Reflect Spirit of Inclusive Democracy
Speaking about the commemorative publications, President Murmu said the books represent the spirit of India’s vibrant democracy and the evolving role of Rashtrapati Bhavan in connecting with citizens.
She expressed confidence that the publications would help readers understand the traditions, constitutional significance, day-to-day functioning, and public outreach initiatives associated with the President’s House.
The President said the titles themselves reflect the ideals of inclusive democracy, public participation, compassion, and India’s cultural heritage.
Five Publications Released
The first set of commemorative books released during the ceremony includes:
Rashtrapati Bhavan: Rashtra Ka Bhavan
Seva aur Samvedana
Samaveshi Sahbhagita
Bharatiyata Ka Utsav
These publications have been brought out by the Publications Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
In addition, an Odia-language book titled Ama Rastrapati Ama Gourav, featuring a collection of articles on President Droupadi Murmu’s life and journey, was also unveiled during the event.
Showcasing Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Public Role
The commemorative series aims to document various dimensions of Rashtrapati Bhavan beyond its constitutional role. The publications highlight its heritage, public engagement initiatives, cultural programmes, and efforts to make the institution more accessible to citizens.
Officials said the books are intended to provide readers with deeper insights into the traditions and functioning of India’s highest constitutional office while celebrating the President’s four years in office.
A Vision Rooted in Service
Throughout her address, President Murmu reiterated that ethical leadership, social responsibility, inclusivity, and respect for India’s cultural diversity are central to nation building.
She called upon young citizens, women, and communities across the country to work together in strengthening India’s democratic values and ensuring that development reaches every section of society.
