New Delhi, Sep 5: President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday urged teachers to play a transformative role in shaping young minds by encouraging scientific thinking, ethical conduct and a strong commitment to the nation.
In a Teachers’ Day article titled ‘Shaping Minds; Building the Future’, the President said educators have a sacred responsibility to guide students towards becoming responsible and compassionate human beings.
She said a teacher’s true achievement lies in seeing students attain success while remaining principled in their thoughts and actions.
Referring to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation, Murmu said social inclusion remains an important element of the country’s progress. She urged educators to prepare students who respect India’s cultural heritage while embracing scientific thinking and working for the welfare of humanity.
The President called on teachers to encourage students to uphold the principle of Antyodaya, protect the environment and other living beings, pursue excellence and contribute to society with a “nation first” approach.
Murmu also highlighted the immense trust placed in teachers by parents and guardians when they send their children to educational institutions.
She said educators must safeguard that trust by treating students with care and ensuring their safety and overall development.
According to the President, a teacher’s behaviour and conduct should never create fear, anxiety or feelings of inferiority among students. Instead, educators should motivate young people and help them realise their full potential.
She emphasised the importance of creating an educational environment where children are encouraged to think independently, remain curious and ask questions.
Developing students’ ability to reason, debate, make sound judgements and become independent individuals, she said, represents one of the most valuable aspects of teaching.
Murmu said an inspiring education system can help India produce successful entrepreneurs, accomplished scientists, creative artists and citizens capable of developing innovative responses to emerging challenges.
Recalling the influence of her own teachers, the President said dedicated educators can unlock a student’s potential and provide the confidence needed to confront difficult situations and pursue ambitious goals.
Teachers, she noted, perform a role that extends well beyond completing academic curricula. Their encouragement can leave a lasting impact on students’ character, aspirations and outlook.
The President also appealed to citizens to respect and appreciate sincere and committed teachers for their contribution to society.
She expressed hope that through the efforts of educators, India would continue to learn, progress and eventually lead in various fields.
