Prez Says Civil Servants Crucial in Connecting State With Citizens

On Civil Services Day, the President emphasizes integrity, empathy, and citizen-centric governance as key to nation-building

NEW DELHI, Apr 21: Marking Civil Services Day, President Droupadi Murmu extended her greetings to bureaucrats across the country, highlighting their crucial role in shaping governance and strengthening the relationship between the State and its citizens. She underscored that integrity and empathy among public servants remain essential pillars in fostering inclusivity and ensuring effective administration.

In her message shared on the social media platform X, the President acknowledged the wide ranging responsibilities undertaken by civil servants from designing forward looking, citizen focused policies to ensuring their seamless implementation at the grassroots level. She noted that these efforts directly influence the quality of life for millions of people across the nation.

“As Bharat moves forward with renewed aspirations, your commitment to fairness, compassion, and accountability will continue to bridge societal gaps and reinforce trust between governance systems and the public,” she stated. The President further urged officials to uphold the highest standards of public service while contributing to the vision of a more equitable and progressive India.

Observed annually on April 21, Civil Services Day serves as a reminder for civil servants to reaffirm their dedication to public welfare and administrative excellence. The day encourages reflection on their responsibilities and reinforces the importance of responsive and transparent governance.

The occasion also commemorates the historic address delivered in 1947 by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Metcalf House in Delhi, where he famously described civil servants as the “steel frame of India.” His vision continues to inspire generations of administrators to uphold unity, integrity, and efficiency in public service.

As the country continues its developmental journey, the role of civil servants remains pivotal in ensuring that governance is inclusive, accessible, and aligned with the aspirations of its citizens.
