PRI members participate in national level workshop

JAMMU: Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the two-day National Level Workshop at Dr BR Ambedkar International Center, New Delhi.

The two-day national level workshop was organized by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj in which PRI members comprising DDC Chairpersons from Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch and Baramula districts, DDC Members, BDC Chairpersons and Officials of RDD Department took part. The workshop was organized on how to prepare Block Panchayat Development Plan (BPDP) and District Panchayat Development Plan (DPDP). More than 500 delegates attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Col (Retd) Mahan Singh, DDC Chairman Kathua appreciated the imitative of Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Government of India. He asserted that it has been really learning experience. He further added that as per the comparative presentation made in the institute, the empowered DDC Councils in other states as 3rd tier of PRI have been instrumental in changing the face of Rural India.

Union MoS, Kapil Moreshwar Patil delivered valedictory speech and interacted with delegates of various states and union territories.

Union Secretary of RD&PR also delivered his speech to delegates highlighting GOI priorities to strengthen PRIs, the focus to shift from GPDP to BPDP/DPDP from next Financial Year onwards.

The delegation led by Col Mahan Singh (Retd) DDC Chairman Kathua also met MoS Panchayati Raj and handed over a memorandum to empower the institution of DDC as 3rd tier of PRI.
